Electric pickup trucks are not a thing of the future, they are here now, thanks to the arrival of models such as the Rivian R1T and GMC’s Hummer EV. Ford F-150 Lightning
With Ford being the makers of America’s best-selling pickup truck, their plans to develop an all-electric edition are noteworthy. It will be called the F-150 Lightning, set to debut in Spring 2022 with a price tag of just under $42,000 for the base model, while other models will carry a larger price tag. It will include an all-wheel drive as a standard feature and will be powered by either a 98.0-kWh or a 131.0-kWh battery pack. This will boast over 420 horsepower and an estimated range of 230 miles. Higher trim models will have as much as 563 horsepower and as much as 300 miles of range.
Chevrolet Silverado EV
Chevy will roll out a Silverado EV edition for 2024, but will not look very similar to the gas-powered version. Like the Ford F-150, the Silverado EV will also boast all-wheel drive but boasts a range of 400 miles on a single charge. It goes without saying that the new Chevy EV truck has a lot of potentials. Unfortunately, buyers who are interested will have to wait until 2023, when the Silverado EV is expected to hit dealers. GMC Sierra EV
As mentioned, GMC has the Hummer EV that recently hit the market, but it will be accompanied by an electric version of the Sierra truck. It’s estimated to have a range of as much as 400 miles and look similar to the Chevy Silverado EV. The GMC Sierra EV will also likely be available in 2023.
Tesla Cybertruck
With Tesla’s Cybertruck, it appears the company wants people to forget what they think of when you say “pickup truck”. The unique truck deviates from the norms people think about for a truck, as it boasts an odd wedge form and a DeLorean-like stainless-steel exterior. According to Tesla, the Cybertruck is dent-proof, scratch-proof, and even bulletproof. Despite it’s weird to look, it can reportedly tow 14,000 pounds and travel 500+ miles on a full charge, making it more competitive than other EVs are currently available.
It’s fast too. It can hit 60 mph in just three seconds and has adjustable air suspension that can be set to more than 15 inches off the ground.
The Tesla Cybertruck was previously set for release in 2022, but currently, a timetable for its debut is unknown.
Toyota Tacoma EV
Toyota has unveiled its plan to develop an electric truck in the next few years. However, details about the upcoming truck have not been divulged, though all expectations point to the next version of the Tacoma.
Canoo Pickup Truck
The Canoo Pickup Truck is thought of as a contemporary electric version of the Volkswagen Transporter or Chevy Corvair pickup trucks of the past. The Canoo has a cab-forward design but without a formal hood. It is unlike any other truck currently available but is adaptable as other midsize trucks we see.
Nothing is confirmed just yet, but we may see the Canoo Truck show up in 2023 if the plan is followed.
