Your favorite artist’s favorite artist, Chappell Roan, graced The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon with her presence, showcasing a look that was nothing short of extraordinary.
Known for her dramatic on-stage transformations, Roan once again pushed the boundaries of beauty and fashion.
Inspired by Barbie of Swan Lake
For her appearance, Roan drew inspiration from the 2003 Barbie of Swan Lake. “My stylist Genesis Webb and I pull from drag, horror movies, burlesque, theater—I love looking pretty and scary,” Roan shared with Fallon.
This time, her vision embodied the ethereal essence of the Swan Lake characters, Odette and Odile.
The Transformation: Blonde Wig and Feathers
Roan’s signature red curls were transformed into a bleach-blonde mane by hairstylist Dom Forletta. “The blonde really enhanced the sort of ethereal, swan look we were going for here,” Forletta explained. “Yes, it’s a wig! A wig and a lot of extensions because we wanted to match the fullness of Chappell’s real hair.”
To achieve her iconic curls, Forletta combined the ghd Thin Curling Wand and classic figure 8 waves using hairpins, finishing off with R&Co’s Balloon Dry Volume Spray for that extra lift.
Mesmerizing Makeup
Makeup artist Andrew Dahling took Roan’s look to the next level by blocking her eyebrows and framing her eyes with strategically placed feathers. Her eye makeup featured dramatic red shadow beneath white-feathered lashes, giving her a bird-of-prey appearance. Her lips were painted an antique gold, complementing her pale blonde hair and adding to the overall ethereal quality.
Nail Art to Remember
Nail artist Juan Alvear created six-inch talons that mimicked the quill of a plucked feather. “Each nail mimics the quill of a plucked feather,” Alvear said.
Using Essie’s Artic Jelly and Buttercup Jelly, he crafted a gradient from opaque to translucent, adding striation detailing and long wisps of ostrich feathers for full effect. “I wanted them to have movement and stage presence while Chappell performed.”
Two Stunning Outfits
During her performance of “Good Luck, Babe!” Roan wore a white minidress adorned with feathers and a matching feathered headdress.
For the interview segment, she switched to a black minidress with long feathers protruding from the bustline, representing the duality of the White Swan and Black Swan from the ballet Swan Lake.
A Beauty Icon in the Making
Throughout the interview, Fallon highlighted Roan’s unique approach to fashion. “You’re known for your on-stage looks,” Fallon remarked, showing a collage of her various appearances, including her Statue of Liberty look at Governors Ball.
Roan’s eclectic style draws from diverse influences, creating a persona that is both pretty and scary, pretty and tacky, or just not pretty at all. “I love that fans find such deep meanings to things, and I’m just like, ‘I thought I looked hot, so that’s why,'” she said.
Revealing Personal Tidbits
In a candid moment, Roan revealed that if her music career hadn’t taken off, she would have pursued a career as an esthetician. This tidbit aligns perfectly with her passion for beauty and her meticulous approach to her looks.
Chappell Roan’s appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon was a testament to her ability to reinvent herself continuously.
With the creative talents of her stylist Genesis Webb, hairstylist Dom Forletta, makeup artist Andrew Dahling, and nail artist Juan Alvear, Roan’s look was a perfect blend of ethereal beauty and dramatic flair.
As she continues to rise in the music and beauty world, fans eagerly await her next stunning transformation.
