The Witcher Season 3 will arrive this year. The Witcher Season 2 of the series fulfilled what it promised and was better than the first. It all starts after the big battle of the first one, Ciri and Geralt were finally together and headed to the place where he grew up and was trained, so that she could be safe and protected.

Throughout the season, we were able to see more monsters, but also learn a little more about the past of Henry Cavill‘s character who has a great routine to put you as Geralt and what he went through to become a monster hunter, in addition, it was revealed that Ciri not only had great abilities, but that her blood could be the key to creating more Witchers, which had not been possible for generations.

But the end of The Witcher Season 2 was not the end of everything, Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer still have a big battle ahead of them and that is what we are going to see in The Witcher Season 3.

The Witcher Season 3 Trailer

The first trailer of The Witcher shows Cavill back as Geralt, preparing to fight his most powerful enemy yet, alongside Ciri and Yennefer, who are also part of a battle that promises to change everything.

A few months ago, Netflix also revealed a first set photo where you can see Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer of Vengerberg) and Freya Allan (Princess Cirilla of Cintra) in a snowy landscape. The image is from the first day of filming and simply showed the three leads together.

Netflix is currently broadcasting The Witcher Season 2 in every country.

Netflix has released a first-look video for The Witcher Season 3 along with the two volumes’ guaranteed release dates. Another spectacular season of the program is promised in the teaser trailer, which features Cavill in his final appearance as Geralt and even claims that “everything changes” with these eagerly awaited episodes.

A longer teaser will likely be released closer to the time the show debuts on Netflix, but for now, this first peek gives us a quick glance of Yen and Ciri as well as Geralt for Cavill’s farewell performance.

When The Witcher Season 3 Premieres?

The Witcher Season 3, which will reportedly be the last with Henry Cavill, who will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth, hits the platform on June 29. But the season is divided into two parts, so the second one will arrive on July 27.

What is The Witcher Season 3 about?

Along with the first photo from the set, Netflix revealed a synopsis for the third season of its fantasy series , which reads: “As monarchs, wizards, and beasts from the mainland vie to capture her, Geralt leads Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect her newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy her. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to Aretuza’s guarded fortress, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, she discovers that they have landed on a battlefield of political corruption, black magic, and betrayal. They must strike back, risk everything, or risk being lost forever.”

Ciri is a figure of interest to all the kingdoms that are fighting for power, so she needs to learn to master her abilities to survive, and to help end the war.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, showrunner of the series, told The Wrap: “I think season 3 is really great. It’s based on ‘ The Time of Contempt ‘, and it’s actually a very adaptable book for me. There’s tons of action, there’s tons of jaw-dropping stuff when you get to it. So we’re really letting that drive our narrative. The Witcher Season 3, for example, takes place in a very, very small timeline. It doesn’t take long, because it’s not necessary.”

The Cast of The Witcher Season 3

Surely we are going to see new characters in this season, but for now the confirmed ones are Henry Cavill, who returns as Geralt, Anya Chalota , who is now a Yennefer who should be Ciri’s teacher and mentor, and Freya Allan as Ciri, the princess who has yet to discover how great her abilities are and how to control them.

The Witcher Season 3 Plot: What will Happen?

“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding to protect his newly reunited family from those who want to destroy it,” the show’s official synopsis teases.

“Yennefer is in charge of Ciri’s magical training, so she takes them to the safe fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to learn more about the girl’s hidden powers. Instead, they find themselves in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back and put everything on the line or risk losing each other forever.”

Lauren S. Hissrich, who knows a lot, says, “Money aside, S3 is huge.” She also knows what the budget is, but she doesn’t want to talk about it in detail, which is fine.

After the chaotic end of The Witcher Season 2, the next set of episodes will mostly be about Ciri’s fate to destroy the world or save it, if we ever want season four to happen. There are a lot of people, including the princess’ (dead) father, who want to use the princess’s power for themselves. But at least Geralt and Yennefer are with Ciri now.

Hissrich told TechRadar that The Witcher Season 3 will be based on the second book in the Witcher story, The Time of Contempt. In that book, Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt go to Aretuza, where there is a coup. This forces the three of them to split up again.

It’s important to remember, though, that this plan can change, as it often does when a book is turned into a movie.

The Witcher Season 3 Episodes: How many will there be?

Netflix hasn’t said how long The Witcher Season 3 will be yet, but if the first two seasons are any indication, we can guess that it will also have eight episodes. Even so, since the Witcherverse is getting bigger and bigger, it wouldn’t surprise us if The Witcher Season 3 went on for ten episodes, which could mean more witchy fun for us!

Netflix said that people watched a total of 142.4 million hours of The Witcher Season 2 in just the first three days after it came out. Between December 13 and 19, 49.1 million hours were spent watching The Witcher season one, which was the only other show that came close. So, it’s clear that Netflix wouldn’t waste its money if it chose to add two or three more episodes to The Witcher Season 3.
