In 2018, Yellowstone, the hit western series produced by Taylor Sheridan and starring Kevin Costner, debuted on television. The flagship show is currently in its fifth season. Sheridan secured a contract with Paramount in February 2021 to create new Yellowstone episodes for the company, including the successful prequel series 1883. Technically, 1883 is followed by 1923, likewise set before Yellowstone’s events. According to TV Line, the series will continue in 1883: The Bass Reeves Story, which chronicles the life of the “famous lawman.”

1883: The Bass Reeves Story will examine Bass Reeves’s influence as the first Black deputy marshal in the Wild West. According to History.com, he was born a slave in Arkansas in 1838 and eventually became recognized as a protector of “Indian Territory,” also known as Oklahoma today. At the time, the territory was dominated by the Native American tribes Cherokee, Seminole, Creek, Choctaw, and Chickasaw. Bass became the first African deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi when he accepted the job offer. According to reports, he detained over 3,000 individuals and killed 14 without being hurt. It is also stated that he inspired the mythical Lone Ranger.

1883: The Bass Reeves Story was created by David Oyelowo and his wife, Jessica Oyelowo, before its acquisition by Yellowstone. It is unknown at this time if Reeves will interact with any members of the Dutton family, including James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret (Faith Hill). Still, it seems doubtful, given that the initial script had no connection to Yellowstone.

Suppose you have never watched the series and are curious about its quality. I can confirm that it is quite nice! IMDb’s rating of 9.1/10 is respectable, but Rotten Tomatoes average audience rating is 87 percent. This concert is, in my opinion, an absolute must-see. If you’re on the fence about viewing it, read what others have said about it.

Reviews

While the wild west was brutal, each episode of this series is violent to an extreme degree. Sam Elliot is a competent performer with a limited vocal range. He assumes the same sulky, muttering, melancholy demeanor in every role. I mean, it always occurs in the same manner.

And throughout this series, he has been excessively cruel and vindictive. It is far too dark. I understand why they wish to demonstrate how challenging it was, but they are also inflicting suffering. Not something I particularly love is the girl’s lyrical narration.

Yuck. Please put an end to this. This must conclude in Season 2, Tim McGraw is also an awful parent. Timothy Olyphant would have made a better choice for this part.
