Millie Bobby Brown has spoken out against the public disclosure of her film contracts, emphasizing that such details should remain private. In a recent media Fair cover story, Brown expressed concerns about salary leaks, particularly those involving young actors.
Back in July 2022, reports surfaced that Millie Bobby Brown had earned $10 million for her role in Enola Holmes 2, making her the highest-paid actor under 20 at the time.
Additionally, leaks about her Stranger Things earnings—starting at $250,000 per episode from the third season—also made headlines. While Brown did not confirm or deny these figures, she stated that contracts signed by teenage actors should never be made public.
“They should have been protected so that they’re not on the record,” she told Vanity Fair.
Feeling Protected Yet Concerned
Despite her frustrations over these leaks, Brown acknowledged that she has always felt safeguarded in her career by her parents and Netflix, the platform that produces both Stranger Things and Enola Holmes. However, she believes that there should be stricter privacy measures in place to prevent personal financial details from being exposed.
Learning to Say “No”
Brown credited her parents for instilling in her the ability to stand up for herself from a young age.
“My mom is very knowing and wise, and she advocates for herself,” Brown said. “My dad has always pushed me to stand up for myself and never settle for anything less than what I deserve.”
This upbringing has helped her navigate the entertainment industry with confidence. She hopes that by speaking up for herself, she can also advocate for other young actors facing similar challenges.
The Impact of Early Stardom
Brown’s breakthrough came at just 11 years old when she was cast as Eleven in Stranger Things. Over the years, she has been open about the struggles of growing up in the spotlight. She recalled that media scrutiny, particularly from the press, was harsh on her from a young age, leading her to limit who she allows into her life.
“I started this really young, and I felt that the press specifically was very, very harsh on me,” she shared. “And so I just like to make sure that I’m advocating for myself.”
Invasive Encounters with Paparazzi
Brown also recounted an unsettling experience at 13 when a paparazzo sneaked onto a fashion shoot set in Australia and took invasive photos of her.
“I didn’t have nothing [on underneath]…. It wasn’t too much, but it was enough for it not to be okay,” she revealed.
She believes stricter media regulations are necessary to prevent the exploitation of young stars. “There should be more laws with the media in terms of paparazzi,” she stated.
