COVID may Shift to Endemic Stage in 4-6 Weeks

Dr. Samiran Panda, the Head of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research, indicated today that India will have a stable COVID-19 condition in the next 4-6 weeks if protective measures against the infectious disease are not decreased prematurely.

“If we don’t lower our guard too soon, the disease may transition from epidemic to endemic, and we will return to a balanced condition within the next four to six weeks. We don’t know how variants that have yet to arise will behave, but based on our knowledge of RNA viruses, particularly SARS-COV2, if all ill persons remain the same or comparable and the situation remains stable, we should expect a stable situation in 4-6 weeks “Mirror Now spoke with Dr. Panda.

Dr. Panda responded to a concern about a purposive testing technique that has resulted in a drop in overall COVID test numbers in India by saying that the goal can’t be to find a few diseases and then contact traces.

“These are new issues, such as the disease’s epidemiologic status in the community, the changing context in which we now find ourselves in 2022, and the mutant Omicron’s quick transmission capacity. All of these considerations have influenced the most recent testing strategy as well as the COVID 19 pandemic management strategy “he stated

When asked if India will see a decrease in the number of cases in the coming days, the head of the ICMR’s epidemiology department indicated that the pattern of cases should be observed over time.

“We should wait for data from three-time points; this is required so that you do not make a trend decision based on a single time point. We’ll have to wait three to four weeks to see if this trend will continue or if it already has “Dr. Panda expressed his thoughts.

Dr. Panda commented on the Omicron form’s predominance in India, stating that Omicron is displacing the Delta variety in various Indian states.

“It is gradually replacing omicron in large metropolitan centers such as Delhi and Mumbai, as well as states such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The issue is the mass’s behavior as well as our attentive tracking. The good news is that the vast majority of instances do not necessitate hospitalization “Added he.
