Ariana Grande, the renowned singer and actress, has shared exciting details about the highly anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good.
Speaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Sunday, February 9, the 31-year-old Hollywood star revealed how the second movie will differ from Wicked: Part One.
A Deeper Story in Wicked: For Good
During a conversation with Dave Karger at the festival, Grande explained that the sequel will carry a more emotional and profound message. “Well, it’s very special. It’s very emotional. I think the second movie really embodies unconditional love and forgiveness and friendship,” she shared.
She also hinted at the consequences that follow the choices made in the first film. “And you get to see people bear the repercussions for their choices that they make in movie one. So if movie one is about choices, movie two is about consequences.”
The Journey of Glinda and Elphaba Continues
Wicked: Part One ended with the iconic song Defying Gravity, as Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba and Grande’s Glinda parted ways. The sequel will pick up from this point and cover Act 2 of the original Broadway musical.
In the first part, Elphaba, who has green skin, struggles to be understood, while Glinda is more focused on popularity. Their bond changes after they meet the Wizard of Oz, leading them on different paths.
Director Jon M. Chu, who recently won Best Director at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards for Wicked: Part One, also spoke about what fans can expect. If you love those two women, wait until you see where their relationship goes. Oz is bigger, it’s more expansive, and in the time that we’re living in, it speaks so directly to the moment.”
Exciting Musical Additions
One of the biggest surprises for fans is the introduction of original songs in Wicked: For Good. Unlike the first film, which stuck closely to the Broadway musical’s soundtrack, the sequel will feature new songs that add fresh depth to the characters.
In an interview with Variety, Grande revealed that legendary composer Stephen Schwartz has written a brand-new song for Glinda. This moment marks a significant turning point in Glinda’s arc. It reveals a side of her personality that audiences haven’t seen before,” she said.
Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, also confirmed that she has an original song in the sequel. Reports suggest that her performance of the track was so emotional that it moved the crew to tears.
Glinda’s Transformation in the Sequel
Grande hinted that Glinda’s new song could be linked to a key moment when she finally confronts the Wizard of Oz (played by Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh). Despite appearing successful, Glinda struggles with guilt and begins to realize the harm caused to Elphaba. Her song may mark a turning point where she takes a stand for justice, playing a crucial role in bringing down the Wizard’s rule.
Building Anticipation for Wicked: For Good
The anticipation for the sequel is growing, especially after the critical and commercial success of the first film. With Grande’s revelation about Glinda’s new song, fans are eager to see how it will add to the beloved story.
Grande also expressed hope that the new track could eventually be included in the stage version of Wicked, further connecting the film adaptations with the Broadway production.
As excitement builds, fans won’t have to wait too long—the much-anticipated Wicked: For Good is set to be released on November 21, 2025.
