The Future of Remote Work: How Video Collaboration Tools are Shaping the Landscape?

Video Collaboration Tools

The pandemic significantly changed various aspects of people’s work life. Regardless of what industry you happen to be working in, you likely saw it change in a major way, with people becoming more used to online communication. Whether it’s using zoom to hold conference calls, or GDocs to collaborate on documents.

But while most jobs managed to transition fairly easily from the onsite to offsite model, film production really struggled. Not only was it sometimes impossible to work on a set remotely, but even editing and sound mixing become difficult.

However, with remote work becoming a standard of the industry, businesses are using collaboration tools to help them adapt to this shifting landscape.

Increased Visual Fidelity for Video Conferencing Tools

One of the biggest innovations that have made video conferencing tools a much more popular option for various industries. With faster internet connections and better cameras on phones and laptops, various video conferencing tools allow for a much clearer image.

The clearer image doesn’t just offer a much smoother user experience, but it can also allow for more creative use of the tool. Professors and teachers don’t have to rely on cameras or other drawing tools to simulate a white board. Instead, they can use a real white board to make notes, and students will be able to see it more clearly.

Along with the visuals, the audio fidelity of these online calls is also improving, allowing people to use microphones that come with their average headphones. This contributes to a much more convenient collaborative experience. People can hear each other more clearly, and no longer have to worry about getting new equipment to better communicate with others.

VR and AR become a Mainstay in Collaborative Workspaces

Along with existing hardware improving for most people, the price of VR and AR is also going down. As affordability for this tech improves, it is becoming even more viable for companies to rely on this tech to conduct meetings. With products like the Meta Quest 2 also becoming cheaper, VR meetings could become a possibility in the near future.

The use of VR and AR will allow for better collaboration, further reducing the difficulty that comes with communicating with individuals in a remote environment. VR will be especially effective in helping people better visualize what they are trying to explain, in more vivid ways than if they were just talking to each other in person.

Integration with Other Collaborative Apps

Another important way that the landscape is shifting is with integrated collaborative apps. Companies like Microsoft have connected all their apps through the Office 360, all-in-one, productivity center. So, people can quickly connect with other coworkers on Teams, and then move on to preparing a presentation on PowerPoint. They can seamlessly move from one productivity application to another, without having to worry about fellow collaborators not joining you.

Companies like Google are also coming out with their respective collaborative tools as well, allowing companies to rely on a single suite for all their necessary applications. On the other hand, some collaboration tools are also coming with extensions that can allow individuals to seamlessly move from one application to the next. It not only allows people to work more efficiently, but it also allows them to be more effective even if they are not working in the same office space.

Hybrid workspaces become more popular

Another popular prediction for the future of remote work is that hybrid work models will become even more popular. Many companies continue to operate on the same office-based model, but they are also moving towards remote work or completely hybrid workspaces. Along with being a lot more comfortable for all employees, the hybrid working environment can help transition into a remote workplace.

Plenty of people have become a lot more comfortable with working remotely, with some even dedicating specific rooms in their home for their work. It allows them to better manage their time, and can help them better connect with their loved ones. Many companies are coming to understand that some people have just become more habitual of working remotely, and asking them to work in a dedicated office space could affect their productivity. So even if companies insist on employees working from the office, they started to create a hybrid working environment.

More Creative Ways to Encourage Collaboration

While more collaborative apps have started to enter the market, some are looking to deal with specific issues in niche markets. For instance, film production continues to struggle with remote work, even during pre and post-production. Post-production can be especially difficult as all the creative leads need to look over how a video project is coming together.

This video collaboration tool is making it easier for editors and creative leads on a project to work together when finalizing a film. From color grading and pitch correction to stitching together scenes, a good video collaboration software can give creatives the same over the shoulder editing experience. These video collaboration software also come with a host of other post-production features that can allow the editor to finalize the project, without having to move to a different application.

So along with helping them improve their efficiency, it can also ensure that a project will have to be delayed because one of the creative leads is not present. Instead, they can still be part of the editing process, even if they are not physically there.

Conclusion

Remote work continues to become a popular way for individuals to effectively work while being an active part of the company. And with the help of video collaboration tools, it is becoming a lot easier for people to work from home or from their preferred workspace, without affecting their efficiency.

Even in industries where it can be difficult to work remotely, like film production, people can now better communicate with each other and work with other creatives in the project. As a whole, video collaboration tools are an effective way to adapt to the changing landscape.
