Technical Education in Bihar

If we see today’s era, the economic situation of any country depends on its industrialization and all the states contribute to that. Even today, there are some states in India that are far behind other states in terms of technical education and Bihar is one of that. If seen, Bihar is perfect in every way to be a good industrial state because of its hard-working manpower and easy access to the natural resources (groundwater- Ganga) and easy access to Coal from neighboring states. After analyzing all these things and observing the situation of Bihar in many years, the state government has taken many drastic steps so that technical education can be promoted in Bihar and this state can also be industrialized so the new and good employment opportunities can be provided here. Which will not only contribute to the progress of Bihar but will also contribute to the country’s economic growth.

At present, Bihar has 13 recognized universities and 250 plus government colleges but the number of institutes for engineering and technical education is only 8 with the student capacity of 1905 which is very limited and it has only 13 polytechnic institutions with the maximum capacity of 2745 seats. The government conducts the entrance exam BCECE (Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination) which is a way to get into engineering courses as well as not technical courses like Agriculture, Pharma, and health science programs.

There is no prescribed age limit for applying for Engineering and Pharmacy courses

DCECE is an exam for admission in various engineering diplomas in the Polytechnic institutes across Bihar which is an offline (pen-paper) based examination in which students may appear after completing class 10 or equivalent. It is also conducted at the time of BCECE (Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination). Two exams are conducted for two different courses in it.

  1. PE (polytechnic engineering) which is for the admission into diploma engineering courses’
  2. PPE (part-time polytechnic engineering) which is for the admission into part-time 4-year diploma engineering courses.

Domicile- Candidate must be a local citizen of Bihar (no outsider can apply)

Even though the DCECE exam process is offline, the candidate can apply through online only. Later he can download the admit card online and appear in the exam. A merit list of successful students will be prepared in this examination and they will be called for further counseling. At the same time, the candidate will be asked for his choice and according to his rank, he will be allotted the seat in the college keeping his choice in consideration and fee collection will be done (online or offline). The most important process in all the processes will be document verification where all the documents of the candidate will be checked whether it is true or not.

The limited number of seats in Bihar is the biggest problem facing technical education and the government is adopting many new ways to emerge from it and working in this direction, the government recently inaugurated the Central University in Gaya, Bihar.

To sum up, technical education enhances the skill sets of human resource which plays a vital role in the contribution of increasing industrial productivity as well as the overall economy and improves the living lifestyle.
