Tired of High Water Bills? These Fixture Upgrades Could Change That

reduce water bills with fixture upgrades

In this economy, where the cost of utilities is rising daily, homeowners must find ways to reduce their water bills. Saving money on your water bills will help you in the long run and enable you to transform your ordinary home into a smart home.

But how do homeowners reduce their water bills? One way is to upgrade the existing fixtures. Now, this upgrade does come with an upfront cost, but think about the brighter side. You will be able to save a lot of money in the long run, which outweighs the investment you will be making now. The only condition is that you hire a reliable plumbing service provider for the task.

1. Install a Water-Efficient Toilet:

Every individual must do their best to save water. You may not realize it, but each flush uses a lot of water. In fact, 30% of total household water is used while flushing. Fortunately, you can upgrade to a new toilet model that uses less water.

Old models may use up to 2.7 litres of water per flush. On the contrary, newer models may use 4.8 litres of water, which is significantly less. This doesn’t mean that the flushing power is lower in the newer toilet models. Hence, if you upgrade to a water-efficient toilet, you may have an upfront cost, but in the long run, you will be saving a lot of money.

2. Investing in a High-Efficiency Water Heater:

Your water heater may store 151 to 378 litres of water, depending on the capacity and tank size. If the heater is not running efficiently, you will have to wait longer for the water to heat up to the desired temperature, which will increase your energy bills. Moreover, another disadvantage of an inefficient water heater is that you may also end up utilizing more water than you would typically do, which adds up to the water bills as well.

One way you can solve this problem is by opting for energy-efficient water heaters that save on electricity costs and water bills. Look for the Energy Star on the heater. A 5-star rating is the best option for homes, but they are more expensive than other models. If you are looking for a balance between energy efficiency and total cost, opting for a 3-star model is your best bet.

3. Install a Leak Detection System

Install a Leak Detection System

Embracing minimalism for your home is great for your mental health. But this doesn’t mean you compromise on the essentials. Leaks can be really frustrating and add a lot to your existing water bills. The problems with leaks are that you can’t easily notice them, and keep on wondering what the reason is for the ever-rising water bills. One way you can solve this problem is by opting for an innovative leak detection system. These systems alert the users to unusual water usage patterns or any potential leaks that could soon go out of control.

Some high-efficiency systems can also shut off the main water supply before the problem becomes serious. A leak detection system is a small investment, but its benefits are numerous. Hence, every homeowner must invest in this small piece of equipment.

4. Schedule Plumbing Inspections Regularly:

Now, this is not a fixture upgrade but an essential step to check that your plumbing system is working efficiently all the time. Just like your roof and other major systems in your home need inspection from time to time, your plumbing system also requires examination from an expert.

Hence, it is important to call the plumbing specialists to ensure that the faucets, pipes, and other equipment in your home are working properly.

Conclusion

Some fixtures can really help you cut down on your water bills. They enable you to use water more judiciously and help save a lot of money in the process. Now, one thing you need to remember is that before you add any fixtures to your home, you should talk to a plumbing professional, as they will help you make the right choice.
