Top 10 Budget-friendly Hotel Booking Apps for Your Enjoyable Tour

Budget friendly Hotel Booking Apps for Your Enjoyable Tour

I used to book hotels on whatever site came up first in search. Then I started checking the same room on three or four apps before paying. On many trips, the price gap was big enough to cover dinner. That habit taught me which budget friendly hotel booking apps actually save money and which ones just look cheap.

Below are the 10 apps I keep on my phone, with the 2026 perks that matter most. If you care more about features than price, our list of the best hotel booking apps for your trip is a good next read.

Quick Comparison of the 10 Apps

These budget friendly hotel booking apps fall into two groups. Search apps compare prices from many sites. Booking apps sell the room and reward you for coming back.

App Type Best for Main money saver
Kayak Price search Comparing many sites at once Price alerts, app-only rates
Trivago Price search Finding the cheapest site for one hotel 5M+ properties compared
Booking.com Booking Flexible stays worldwide Genius discounts (10% to 15%)
Expedia Booking Hotel + flight bundles One key member price
Agoda Booking Asia trips VIP deals up to 25%
Hotels.com Booking Simple hotel-only booking One key member price
Priceline Booking Flexible travelers in the US Express Deals up to 60%
OYO Booking Very low-cost rooms Budget-only inventory
Hostelworld Booking Solo and backpacker trips Dorms and cheap private rooms
HotelTonight Booking Same-day stays Daily Drop deals

Top 10 Budget Friendly Hotel Booking Apps

I start every hotel search with one of the first two apps, then book on the one that gives me the best final price or perk. Here is how each of these budget friendly hotel booking apps earns its place.

1. Kayak

Kayak does not sell rooms. It searches many booking sites and shows you who has the lowest price. My favorite feature is the price alert. I save a search, and the app tells me when the rate drops.

The app also shows some mobile-only hotel rates and lets you search by budget. Kayak’s newest tool is AI Mode, built with ChatGPT. You type what you want in plain words, like “hotels near the beach under $100 for two nights,” and it finds matching stays.

Best for: Anyone who wants to see the whole market before choosing among budget friendly hotel booking apps.

2. Trivago

Trivago is another price search tool, focused only on stays. It compares more than 5 million properties across hundreds of sites, including Booking.com, Expedia, and Priceline. When you pick a deal, it sends you to that site to book.

I use Trivago when I already know the hotel I want. One search shows me which site sells that exact room for less.

Watch out: Displayed prices may leave out taxes and fees. Always check the final total on the booking site. That rule applies to all budget friendly hotel booking apps.

3. Booking.com

Booking.com has the widest mix of hotels, guesthouses, and apartments I have seen. Its free Genius program is the main reason I stay loyal. Level 1 is free once you sign in and gives 10% off at Genius properties. Level 2 unlocks after 5 stays in 2 years and adds 10% to 15% off, plus free breakfast or room upgrades at some properties. Genius deals now cover more than 390,000 properties.

Booking.com also runs seasonal Getaway Deals with at least 15% off at many properties. Many rooms come with free cancellation, which helps when plans change.

Best for: Travelers who want choice and flexible rates from budget friendly hotel booking apps.

4. Expedia

Expedia is strongest when you book a hotel and a flight together. Package prices often beat booking each part alone.

Its One Key loyalty program changed on July 28, 2026. Base Blue members now earn 1% back in OneKeyCash, down from 2%. Silver and gold earn 2%, and platinum earns 3%. Members still get instant member prices of 10% or more on many hotels. Expedia also ended its hotel price guarantee.

Best for: Bundled trips. For hotel-only stays, compare it with other budget friendly hotel booking apps first.

5. Agoda

Agoda is my first stop for trips in Asia. It often has lower rates for local hotels there than other big apps. Sign in to see Insider Deals, which are hidden from logged-out users.

AgodaVIP is free. Two bookings in 24 months unlock Silver with up to 12% off VIP deals. Five bookings unlock Gold with up to 18% off, and ten unlock Platinum with up to 25% off. Agoda also added a Diamond tier for its most frequent users. You earn AgodaCash for future stays too. For trips to the Gulf, see our guide to the most trusted booking apps in the Middle East.

Best for: Asia trips on one of the most budget friendly hotel booking apps in the region.

6. Hotels.com

Hotels.com is owned by Expedia and shares the same One Key program. Its old “stay 10 nights, get one free” reward is gone in the US. Under the July 2026 rules, base members earn 1% back in OneKeyCash. Members still see lower member prices, often around 10% off at many hotels.

I still open Hotels.com because its app is clean and fast for hotel-only searches. Some regions still use the old stamp program, so check what your account shows.

Best for: Quick, simple bookings among budget friendly hotel booking apps.

7. Priceline

Priceline’s Express Deals can cut hotel prices by up to 60%. The catch is that you see the area, star rating, and amenities, but not the hotel name until you pay. These deals are prepaid and non-refundable, so I only use them when my dates are fixed.

Priceline hotel deals with updated prices

Priceline VIP is free. You reach Blue after 2 completed trips, Gold after 5, and Platinum after 20. From Blue Up, you get up to 50% off at thousands of VIP hotels. You also get an Express Deals coupon of 5% to 10% after every trip. The app often gives a bigger Express Deals coupon than the website.

Best for: Flexible travelers who want the deepest discounts from budget friendly hotel booking apps.

8. OYO

OYO focuses on low-cost hotels and works best in India and parts of Southeast Asia. Its parent company, PRISM, says the OYO app is now the eighth most downloaded hotel booking app in the world. PRISM moved its premium hotels to a separate app called CheckIn, so the OYO app stays focused on value stays.

Room quality can vary. I always read recent guest photos before booking.

Best for: Very tight budgets. It is one of the cheapest budget friendly hotel booking apps for short city stays.

9. Hostelworld

Hostelworld lists about 16,500 hostels in 180 countries, backed by reviews from over 13 million travelers. You can book a dorm bed or a private room, which is often cheaper than a basic hotel.

What I like most is the social side. After you book, the app lets you chat with others at your hostel. You can also join linkups, such as walking tours or group dinners, from 14 days before check-in. A newer Social Pass lets you join city chats even if you are staying somewhere else.

Best for: Solo travelers and backpackers who want budget friendly hotel booking apps with a social bonus.

10. HotelTonight

HotelTonight, owned by Airbnb, sells unsold rooms at short notice. Its Daily Drop shows one special deal that stays open for only 15 minutes after you unlock it. HT Perks members also earn 10% of each booking as Airbnb credit, valid for one year. The app listing says this credit is for US and UK travelers.

I have used it for surprise overnight stops when a plan changed late in the day.

Best for: Last-minute stays. Among budget friendly hotel booking apps, it is the best for tonight or tomorrow.

How I Save More With Any App

The app matters, but habits matter more. These steps work with all budget friendly hotel booking apps:

  1. Search first, book second. Check Kayak or Trivago, then book where the final price is lowest.
  2. Always sign in. Member prices and hidden deals on Booking.com, Agoda, and Expedia only show when you are logged in.
  3. Compare the total, not the nightly rate. Taxes and resort fees can change which app is cheapest.
  4. Use the app, not the website. Several apps, including Priceline and Kayak, show mobile-only rates.
  5. Pick free cancellation when you can. Then rebook if the price drops later.
  6. Stick to one or two loyalty programs. Spreading bookings across many apps keeps you at the lowest tier everywhere.

FAQs

Which is the cheapest hotel booking app?

No single app among budget friendly hotel booking apps is always the cheapest. Prices change by city and date. That is why I compare Kayak or Trivago first. Priceline Express Deals and HotelTonight often give the lowest rates if you are flexible.

Are hotel booking apps cheaper than booking direct?

Sometimes. Budget-friendly hotel booking apps often have member prices that beat the hotel’s own site. But hotel chains give points and perks only for direct bookings, so check both.

Is Booking.com or Expedia better for budget travel?

Both are solid budget friendly hotel booking apps. For hotel-only stays, Booking.com’s Genius discounts usually help more. For hotel and flight packages, Expedia often wins.

Are hidden-hotel deals safe to book?

Yes. Priceline is one of the best-known budget friendly hotel booking apps, but these deals are final. With Priceline Express Deals, you cannot cancel or change the booking, so only use them when your plans are fixed.

Final Thoughts

The best budget friendly hotel booking apps are the ones that fit your trip. I search on Kayak or Trivago, book Asia stays on Agoda, use Booking.com for flexible plans, and keep HotelTonight for last-minute nights. Hostelworld and OYO cover the tightest budgets.

Try two or three of these apps on your next trip and compare the final price. For more tools to plan the rest of your trip, read our list of the best travel apps to enhance your journey.
