Singer Apologizes for Swearing During Live National Anthem Performance

Singer Apologizes Swearing Live National Anthem

Singer Loomis issued a public apology following a live performance of the U.S. national anthem that took an unexpected turn last week. During a broadcast for the Free and Equal Elections Foundation debate featuring third-party presidential candidates, Loomis became flustered and dropped multiple expletives after stumbling on a line in The Star-Spangled Banner. Her reaction, caught live on C-SPAN, quickly went viral.

“When I realized I messed up, I panicked and cursed,” Loomis explained in a statement to Digital Media. She described the pressure of performing the anthem, knowing her family, especially her Army veteran father, was watching. “It’s the National Anthem; my family was watching, especially my dad,” she continued, adding that her response was a “raw and unfiltered” expression of nerves.

An Apology on Social Media and More Insight

Taking to Instagram to express further remorse, Loomis addressed the Free and Equal Elections Foundation, their production team, and her followers, explaining the behind-the-scenes miscommunication that contributed to her flustered start. “I was a little late there and didn’t have a clear cue, which left me flustered when we went live!” she wrote in her caption. “I know it wasn’t my best, and I’m truly sorry if it didn’t hit the mark.”

In the Instagram video, Loomis appeared visibly emotional, reiterating her regret and calling the experience a “lesson learned.” She urged viewers to look past the incident and understand that she intends to come back stronger. “Please, please, please forgive me,” she implored, leaving followers with an optimistic message: “Always turn lemons into lemonade and turn negative into positive.”

A Performance Turned Viral Moment

Loomis had been invited to perform The Star-Spangled Banner at the third-party candidate debate, which featured Green Party nominee Jill Stein, Libertarian nominee Chase Oliver, and Constitution Party nominee Randall Terry. As she reached the iconic “rocket’s red glare” line, her voice cracked, leading her to ask anxiously, “Can I go back? Can I go back, please?” This plea was caught on video, and within moments, Loomis was informed that the performance was airing live, much to her horror.

Despite her initial shock, Loomis quickly resumed singing but paused again to share her nervousness with the audience. This candid reaction only amplified the media frenzy as clips circulated widely on social platforms.

Mixed Reactions from the Public

While many empathized with Loomis’ honest reaction to her nerves, others were quick to criticize. Online discussions erupted, with some expressing disapproval of her handling of the performance. Comments ranged from disappointment to comparisons with other infamous national anthem renditions, notably pop singer Fergie’s 2018 performance at the NBA All-Star Game. “I know Fergie is somewhere grinning ear to ear right now because she no longer has the worst national anthem performance in history,” one user quipped.

Others, however, appreciated Loomis’ transparency and saw her apology as a genuine response to a challenging moment.

Looking Ahead: Lessons Learned

In her statement, Loomis took full responsibility for the performance, asking the public not to judge her artistry solely by this moment. “I take full responsibility on my part and ask that you don’t use this incident to reflect on the artist I am and am trying to be,” she shared, hoping to channel the experience into growth and resilience.

Originally from Pacoima, California, Loomis has built a career collaborating with Grammy Award-winning producers like Timbaland, Bobby Ross Avila, and Battlecat. With this lesson behind her, she is determined to bring her best to future performances.

Despite the viral mishap of her recent anthem performance, Loomis remains optimistic about her future and her ability to prove herself as an artist.
