Russia Claims Hypersonic Missile Use, Ukraine Asks China To Condemn “Barbarism”
On Saturday, Ukraine urged China to join the West in denouncing “Russian savagery,” after Moscow claimed it had targeted a Ukrainian munitions storage with hypersonic missiles. the first time the next-generation weaponry had been used in battle.
Russia said its soldiers had broken through Ukrainian defenses to infiltrate the beleaguered southern port city of Mariupol, a scene of rising desperation, during the offensive, which took place not far from the country’s western Romanian border.
With the invasion now in its fourth week, Kyiv’s embattled leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, called for “serious” discussions to end the war, which has displaced at least 3.3 million Ukrainians.
Mikhailo Podolyak, a prominent Zelensky adviser, pleaded with China to denounce the invasion.
“If it takes the correct decision to support the civilized countries’ alliance and denounce Russian savagery,” he added on Twitter, China may play a significant role in world security.
The assertion by Russia on Saturday that it has launched its new hypersonic Kinzhal missile would constitute a major new escalation in the country’s drive to force Ukraine to forsake dreams for closer relations with the West.
The armaments stockpile in the western town of Deliatyn had undoubtedly been struck. according to Ukrainian air force spokesperson Yuri Ignat, “we have no information on the type of missile.”
The Kinzhal missile, which was presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018, has been dubbed “a perfect weapon” since it travels at 10 times the speed of sound, making it exceedingly difficult for missile defenses to intercept.
