Treaty of Vossem

He made important discoveries that helped us understand the stomach and digestion better. His work was very important for medicine.

41st British Open

Golf is a sport that has been around for a long time. The British Open is one of the oldest and most important golf tournaments. In 1901, the 41st British Open was held at a place called Muirfield in Scotland. A Scottish golfer named James Braid won. It was the first of five times he would win the British Open. He became one of the best golfers of his time and helped make golf more popular.

Yuan Shikai was a powerful leader in China. He took control of the country in 1912 and tried to make himself emperor.   • Known for: Hale was an American soldier in the Revolutionary War. He volunteered to spy on the British but was caught and executed. His famous last words were “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

Robert Falcon Scott

  • Born: June 6, 1868 in Plymouth, England
  • Died: March 29, 1912 in Antarctica
  • Known for: Scott was a British explorer who led two expeditions to Antarctica. He and his men raced to be the first to reach the South Pole but died on the return journey after finding out a Norwegian team had beaten them there.

Jock Hutchison

  • Born: June 6, 1884 in St Andrews, Scotland
  • Died: September 27, 1977 in Evanston, Illinois
  • Known for: Hutchison was a Scottish-American professional golfer. He won two major golf tournaments – the PGA Championship in 1920 and the British Open in 1921.

Sukarno

  • Born: June 6, 1901 in Surabaya, Indonesia
  • Died: June 21, 1970 in Jakarta, Indonesia
  • Known for: Sukarno was the first president of Indonesia. He helped Indonesia gain independence from the Netherlands and was president from 1945-1967. He was a controversial leader.
