Legendary singer Elton John has shared a deeply personal update about his health, revealing that his vision has significantly deteriorated. The 77-year-old music icon, known for his timeless hits and extravagant performances, has been struggling with eyesight issues, which have started to affect both his personal and professional life.
Elton John’s Worsening Vision
Elton’s vision problems have reached a point where he can no longer sign his full name, opting instead to sign with just the letter “E” and a kiss. Fans purchasing limited-edition sets of his upcoming album Who Believes In Angels? were informed in advance about the change.
The singer previously expressed concerns that his eyesight might prevent him from completing his latest music project. However, despite the challenges, his new album, a collaboration with Brandi Carlile, is set for release on April 4.
How the Vision Loss Started
Elton’s eyesight issues began last July when he suffered an infection in his right eye while on holiday in the South of France. Unfortunately, his left eye has also been affected, further worsening his ability to see.
By December, the singer’s vision loss had already started impacting his everyday life. He revealed that it even prevented him from attending previews of his new musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada.
The Struggles of Daily Life
Speaking on Good Morning America, Elton opened up about the profound effect his vision problems have had.
“It kind of floored me, and I can’t see anything,” he admitted. “I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”
Even simple activities, such as reading lyrics, have become a challenge. Elton expressed uncertainty about whether he could continue recording music due to his inability to see the words.
“I can do something like this [interview], but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for start,” he explained.
Determined to Keep Moving Forward
Despite the difficulties, Elton remains determined to keep going. His passion for music continues to shine through, proving that while his eyesight may have changed, his love for music remains stronger than ever.
Fans around the world have expressed their support for the Rocket Man singer, hoping that he will find ways to adapt and continue creating the incredible music that has defined his legendary career.
