Shah Rukh Khan’s franchise KKR became the champion for the third time in IPL. It was their first title in 10 years. KKR beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final on Sunday evening to take the IPL 2024 trophy. This is Shreyas Iyer’s first title as captain.
What Happened in the Final
Earlier in the final, ICC World Cup 2023 winning captain, Pat Cummins of SRH won the toss and decided to bat first. However, their two openers failed to give the team a good start. Travis Head and youngster Abhishek Sharma both failed on the day, despite running brilliantly throughout the tournament. Hyderabad were denied chances of big runs as KKR’s pacers picked up wickets at regular intervals. Sunrisers failed to bat the entire 20 overs in the final. In reply, KKR reached the port of victory by losing only two wickets. Even though two openers were out, KKR won the final match easily at the 11th over. Venkatesh Iyer played a devastating innings of 52 runs off just 26 balls. Like the entire tournament, Shreyas Iyer captained the final as well. He may have gone one step further as the next captain of the Indian national team.

Pure Dominance of KKR Throughout the Tournament
Throughout the tournament, KKR displayed great teamwork to win the 17th edition of the IPL 2024 for the third time. KKR lost only 3 matches in the entire tournament en route to their third title. Rajasthan Royals, champions of the first edition of IPL, also lost only 3 matches in 2008. However, a total of 8 franchise teams participated at that time.
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the teams that have won the title maximum 5 times in the history of IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad have been champions once before. Another team from Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers, became the champion in the second season.
