An Intercontinental Comparison

66.2% of gambling activity in Sweden was conducted online, followed by Denmark (59.4%), the United Kingdom (59.3%), Finland (58.5%), and Romania (58.5%). Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, all of which have big gaming markets by revenue, had lower shares of their gambling markets online.

What about Poland, you ask? 40% of gamblers are active online. Now the deposits may not be as high as other European nations due to the conversion rate, but five billion is no small amount.

In comparison with the Russian market, with a much larger market, contributed 600 million. “Then why, we ask your honor, this disparity?” asked Milan. Is it because Polish players are hesitant to deposit in Euros? But who is really missing out on capitalizing on Zloty? Think about it.

“We Poles are polished players, for the lack of a better word,” says Milan with a smirk. We are seasoned players who know when and where to invest. High rolling Polish gamblers usually play card games where they can use strategies that have been passed down through generations, to win against the house odds. Why is that, you ask? Currency conversions may reduce their winnings with certain payment methods. The winnings are taxed as it is; why would players want to pay a conversion fee as well? On the other hand, the language barrier is another reason why Poles limit themselves online. Even though most people speak English, being spoken to in Polish provides a reassuring comfort zone. 

Ideally, having a Polish language option, along with payment in Zloty is the perfect platform for Polish players, but we will be satisfied with the acceptance of Zloty for now. 

What Do We Have to Lose?

A total of €2.9bn were lost to casinos in 2021 by Polish players. Approximately 42% of the market is made up by illegal gambling platforms, so over one billion Euros were lost to casinos, according to TopKasynoOnline. On average, Polish players lose about €5,000 a year. The last time we checked, this money was going to three places, Total Casino, The Ministry of Finance, and the illegal casino market in Poland.

Polish players have found many alternatives that accept Zloty. Some of these options also help them avoid paying taxes! Cryptocurrency, for instance, accepts Zloty deposits and withdrawals. Players use crypto while gambling to enjoy a hassle-free transaction. Similarly, many e-wallets accept Zloty without charging any conversion fee, Europay, for instance. Furthermore, most European bank transfers accept PLN without conversion fees added. So all casinos really have to do is to ensure these payment methods are offered. 

PLN is on the rise, and Polish gamblers aren’t the kind to back down either, so the only thing holding you back is the idea that Zloty isn’t worth your time.
